London’s defences
The Thames Barrier is an important structure for London, protecting the city from potentially devastating swells and tides. On its north side sits Thames Barrier Park, where the man-made and natural co-exist.
I spent a glorious few hours there in warm summer sunshine, enjoying the beautifully planted gardens and taking some photographs, noticing how the barrier can look like Jaws. For a west Londoner this is a distant corner of the city and felt very different, but was worth the journey.

Nice photos, it’s nice to see an exotic angle on a sight I recognise very well!

Thank you very much for commenting! Less familiar to me as a west Londoner, but I think it’s a great spot.
