Five-a-day
This edible goodness is mouth-watering fare for the photographer too. I took a selection of the more attractive, beguiling vegetables and fruits and made them my models for a sunlit indoor session. Red chicory, Babycorn, Flower Sprouts and three gorgeous varieties of tomatoes were heaped with attention.
But the star of the show is Romanesco, a complex whirl that is a natural work of art. A series of beautiful film shots of this vegetable by Canadian photoblogger Ehpem was the inspiration for this shoot.
We won’t be short of our five-a-day for some time in this household…
FAR too healthy, but still very tempting! A great series of colourful shots, Mike! :)

Fantastic images, Mike. I love shooting produce and these are wonderful. Romanesco is amazing and the star of the show! Great work.

Thank you Jane, I truly appreciate that! It’s great photographing them. They don’t answer back or wriggle about (much). Little comes close to the intricate surface of the Romanesco.

I expected to see one with a big bite out of it :) Just goes to show where you’ll find inspiration. I love the whorls of the Romanesco (never heard of it before but it photographs really well). Again a great series Mike.

Ha! The taste test is to come. I think it was created to look beautiful and it’s certainly fascinating up close. Thanks as always, Lee, and I hope all is well in your part of the world.

Our part of the world is hot, humid and stormy today Mike, but as always the clouds are fascinating. I’ll have to see if I can find a Romanesco somewhere just so I can try photographing it. That’s my challenge for this week :)

You know everyone out here is waiting with bated breath to hear what it tastes like, it just can’t be as good as it looks :)

It’s still sitting there waiting to be sliced. Maybe I just can’t bring myself to slice and boil!

Oh it’s a vegetable then? I’m showing my ignorance here, I thought for some reason it was fruit :)

Akin to a posh green cauli :)

I can confirm that it tastes like… cauliflower! But the texture is a little more stimulating than your regular cauli.

So far I haven’t found one or anyone who knows about them. I like caulis so maybe on my next travels I’ll find one :)

I think it’s a bit of a poncey London invention – I can’t imagine no-nonsense Aussie produce growers giving it the time of day!
