Celestial windows
An ancient place of worship embracing both the traditional and modern. The stunning architecture of Norwich Cathedral is studded with intricate, heavenly stained glass. But there are a set of windows bedecked in something more contemporary and plain, throwing a lemon and cyan light across the old stones. It’s difficult to be unimpressed with both. Any preferences?…
I love the old windows, but if not located next to them, the newer designs can hold their own, even in a gothic structure.

The old ones definitely hold an enduring magic, Bunty. But the amount of warm light generated by the modern ones was quite astonishing, more immediate.

I’m a traditionalist when it comes to stained glass in churches, so I go with the magnificent first image. It never ceases to amaze me the intricate detail achieved in the past with stain glass, and to me the more modern just doesn’t make the cut :)

Thank you Lee, I think I’m with you when it comes to faith buildings. There’s little to compare to the traditional approach. The first image also converted into a great Instagram image so has a cutting edge too!
