Beetle flower
It looks like an army of pink beetles clustered together, ready to crawl to the next place. I chanced across this beautiful yet beguiling floral in an arid, out of the way spot on the coast of south-east England.
Is it beautiful or vile? Can any nature buffs put a name to this specimen?…
Beautiful and your description is so apt. Hope you have a great weekend.

Thank you very much, James, you too. The full Dungeness set is going up on Sunday. Did I ask if you’ve photographed it?

You are very welcome Mike and I look forward to the new set of images. This has been on my books for a long while…..just things get in the way sometimes.

But now we have an answer! Wild carrot. I think they call it Queen Anne’s Lace in North America.

Hi- Doesn’t look like the Queen Anne’s Lace that I’m familiar with– here, they are all white… will look up Wild Carrot. Love learning new things- thank you!

Apparently they’re part of the same family, Jane… at least according to the venerable Wikipedia :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daucus_carota

You have the perfect name for what otherwise might be the seedhead of wild carrot – and Daucus carota. Would smell as sweet at the end of your lens, whatever it is called.

So is it a Daucus Carota, Laura?

Feel sure it is – you have it there in the birds nest stage of seedhead – in flower known as bishop’s lace, and Queen Anne’s lace
