Colourfall
Autumn brings with it a riot of colourful decay and the irresistible urge to go outdoors and take photographs of the turning leaves. Last year I chose to ignore the call, but this season tried to create some different shots by foraging for leaves in my local park in west London – and bringing them back indoors to be my willing subjects.
My well-lit living space with its white surfaces doubles up as a studio area to take photographs and arrange my own shots rather adapting to what you are confronted with. Standing on a chair proved a useful technique, while my macro lens was given another workout. Consider coming in from the cold to capture your fall…
A really beautiful collection Mike – nicely done!

Now this is what I call Autumn. All this colour and I am still drawn to the two tone and serrated edge images. Great job Mike.

Thank you very much, James. It was an enjoyable session. Like anything else colourful, this need the muted treatment :)

Gorgeous shots! I don’t get into the whole “autumn” thing … but, I DO love the leaves. They are all so fascinating … much more so than when they are simply green. As they’re aging, dying, you see the individuality of each leaf. Just beautiful…

Thank you John :) There is definitely an added fascination as the leaves are going through such a beautiful deterioration.

Lovely images, and white surfaces! Perfect! (Mind you, I can imagine the comments… “I DO hope you’re going to tidy those leaves up after you, Mike…” ;)

Thanks Richard! The white surfaces are a beggar to keep clean but very useful. Oh, the leaves were returned to nature pretty soon afterwards… who knows where they’d been?!

As always a great series Mike and who doesn’t want control when you produce images like these. A couple of ideas I’d like to try but autumn is 6 months away:)

Thanks so much, Lee :) Well the control was threatened when I was standing on a chair and all manner of other silliness. I guess the leaves are a little different in Aus too?…

A few are different, but the Poms in their wanting to have a bit of ‘home’ in the antipods imported many of your lovely deciduous trees. There are a few near me but many more up on the tablelands a couple of hours away.

Ah of course they did! Though they never talk of the Aussie fall in the same breath as the North American and European versions.

Well, it’s not the same . . . . . we don’t have the masses of forest trees, just a tree lined road or two. But I can pretend :D
