The cities of Manchester and Salford are so close, but retain distinct identities.

I live on the Manchester side of the great divide and work in Salford. But crossing between the two is an easy feat.

There is a nub of land which juts into the River Thames. It’s a hive of modern development and activity, with sleek housing blocks, a lofty cable car and a landmark music and entertainment venue – the O2 Arena. A recent river walk took me to North Greenwich, and here are four images from this remarkable piece the capital’s territory.

Shepherds skies

Big skies are usually associated with rolling, empty country. But you can also find them here in my inner city west London neighbourhood.

One sky is currently filled with cranes, nestled around the former BBC Television Centre building site. And in a single day there was dramatic cloud cover and piercing clear blue. And from my own roof space I captured a huge sweep of travelling clouds and a fiercely beautiful sunset. Is the sky big no matter where you are?
