A Christmas collection

Bah humbug. It’s no secret that I’m not a huge fan of Christmas.

But the warm lights and cold December weather are beautiful to photograph. READ MORE BELOW

I must have an affection for Christmas lights because I’ve been photographing them for years without even realising it.

My last London flat was bright and white enough for still life sessions, while Manchester and Salford have been providing light and chill since 2016.

In 2018 I passed over a familiar Christmas with a memorable trip to Chile, where the varied and grand landscape took centre stage.

Whether you’re a Scrooge or a bright-eyed Christmas elf, enjoy the festivities.

Winter sunshine, Manchester

Winter. Howling winds, driving rain and slate grey skies are no fun.

But when it’s freezing cold and the sun is shining, walks are bracing and photographs shimmer.

Here are the fruits of recent walks around Manchester when the light was beautiful.

Autumn leaves radiated, canals dazzled with reflections and new buildings were stellar against crisp blue backdrops. What a time to be alive with a camera…

Fifty shades of blue

July has been a month of grey clouds and heavy rain here in the UK. There’s been little blue sky and that invigorating, electrifying colour.

I’ve combed back over five years of photographs to bring you this true blue gallery from travels near and far.

The Croatian coast produced a post dedicated to blue back in 2017, while Salford – just a walk away from my Manchester home – can dazzle on a bright day.

Do the blues put you in a good mood? Please share your thoughts below!

Manchester summer

July. While southern Europe battled wildfires in intense heat, Manchester and the UK were stuck in a rut of cool temperatures and torrential rain.

Here’s an ode to June, when dry and sunny weather graced this city.

It was an era of warm photography walks in my neighbourhood of Castlefield.

Wearing shorts was the norm, local waterways were still, and the colours on new apartment blocks pinged deep into the long evenings.

What will August bring? Inevitably more worrying signs of climate change which are a huge deal for us all.

How has the weather been with you? It’s less of a banal question these days…

Colours of Spring

It’s safe to say that winter is over, even here in the north of England.

Spring has burst out with tree blossoms, seasonal flowers and green shoots.

I paid a Spring visit to RHS Bridgewater, a public garden on the outskirts of Salford. The sun was shining and the tulip beds were a riot of colour. Dandelions had taken over the meadows.

What’s not to like?!

Pink blossoms at Castlefield in Manchester.

In my Manchester neighbourhood of Castlefield, there is one tree which gives a sumptuous show of pink blossoms every year – and 2023 is no exception

White tree blossom catching the sunlight at Angel Meadow in Manchester.

The trees are putting on a show around Manchester city centre, including this one at Angel Meadow catching the full force of some Spring sunshine
