4th floor bridge
London’s Tate Modern gallery has undergone a big expansion. It’s now home to Switch House, a capacious 10-storey extension. But it’s been connected to the existing core of the building by new walkways. The new 4th floor bridge gives you a new, heightened perspective on the vast Turbine Hall, home to huge installations where the Tate’s industrial past blasts through. Here are just two architectural views from a new viewpoint.

I’m hoping to get there soon – a few shots have been appearing, including these, and all suggest there re a lot of possibilities photographically. I love that shot of the end wall of the Turbine hall – looks so good when seen head-on like this.

No I hadn’t, but I now have. Certainly a lot of opportunities. Was it easy to photograph there or were you having to dodge security?

It was absolutely fine, Andy. You’re better off leaving your tripod a home. I was crouched in a gallery for some time setting up a shot and was left to do it. I also avoid straight shots of exhibits just to be sure there’s no chance of reproduction/rights issues.

I never carry a tripod around London – too much hassle and extra baggage. Thanks for the info.

I don’t unless it’s a night shoot although mine is nice and collapsible. Fits in s suitcase for foreign jaunts.

A great perspective on a great building, Mike. (Although you do have a tendency of giving great photographic ideas a day or two after I am able to emulate them, lol…)
