Long dark nights

When the winter days and nights are dark, it’s natural to seek sources of light.

At my workplace in Salford’s MediaCityUK, very early starts are full of coloured light which shimmer on damp winter days. It’s more muted in my neighbourhood of Castlefield where the brickwork is older.

And indoors, it’s hard to beat the comforting glow from a cluster of candles. At least the nights have started to shorten now…

All photographs taken with my smaller, portable Fuji X100T.

Manchester soul

I’ve already featured my visit to Salford’s Catholic cathedral – lofty and full of impressive stained glass. Manchester’s Anglican counterpart is on the tourist trail in the city centre and no boasts beauty and atmosphere. Hushed and low-lit, its centrepiece is an organ built only last year.

Having two ecclesiastical marvels in close proximity to one another is a joy. My favourite building? I couldn’t possibly say…

A Christmas album

Christmas means a lot of things to an awful lot of people. Even to a photographer – who doesn’t really enjoy the festive season – it means something. Beautiful shiny little objects, blazing colours, warm light, bold bokeh and a great opportunity to capture a particular mood. I took my bagful of seasonal booty and photographed them in full daylight, then at dusk with candlelight and some background fairy lights.

I hope you enjoy this little essence of the season and have a very enjoyable Christmas.
