Gozo is a little island in southern Europe, part of the compact Mediterranean nation of Malta.
It may be small, but punches way above its weight when it comes to churches.
These faithful islanders are served by some impressive places of worship which are large, opulent and a dominant part of the Gozitan landscape.
I visited a fair few by bicycle, craning my neck up at some incredible domes and beautiful architecture. The people of Gozo have every reason to be proud.

For a tiny island, there are a lot of lovely churches!
Indeed, Richard. Solemn places for an enriching slice of awe, wonder and reflection.
And we certainly need some time to reflect at the moment. :-/
Indeed we do…
A feast of churches and so splendid. Thanks for a little peak at this island of Malta.
Thank you very much, Lee. Quite spectacular, yes. They’re not shy about demonstrating their faith. I hope all’s well down yonder.
Hot as hades this week – all days over 35 C. Bit of a contrast to Britain I believe :)
About 35C warmer! Ironically we go to British Summer Time at the weekend…
Ha!
Beautiful churches!
Yes and they all fit onto one little island with around 37,000 people!
How many churches are there on Gozo?
There are 46, I believe, including several cathedral-sized ones.
46 churches on 37,000 people?!? There are fewer churches in this town of 150,000 people…
I know! It’s astounding. Makes for lots of nice buildings to see :)
