The UK is languishing beneath freezing grey cloud, and some of the country is paralysed by snowfall. We expect a transition to a gentler climate now and to be wishing winter farewell.
I’ve done the next best thing and put together a collection of images which demonstrate that Britain knows what sunshine is. I remember feeling warmed and content when taking them – hopefully it works for you too.

The colour returns to these pages after a brush with embracing the gloom. This collection of frames dominated by numerous hues of green is a hankering after the rich freshness of Spring and the return of life to the landscape. It’s a mix of shots from London’s Kew Gardens and the ivy-clad woods of Abney Park Cemetery among others.

The UK is awash with images of snow and winter weather. If you find yourself somewhere cold, this collection is designed to make you feel warmer and evoke memories of the summer and seaside, bathed by sunshine.
There is something invigorating about a trip to the coast, whether it’s exotic Oman, beautiful Mauritius, Australia’s majestic Pacific Coast – or even the homegrown seaside resort of Margate. Morocco, Mersea Island in Essex, Brighton and the Maldives also feature.
Congratulations to Derry-Londonderry in Northern Ireland on beginning its year-long tenure as the first UK City of Culture.
A series of events will take place during 2013 to mark the honour, including hosting the Turner Prize for contemporary art, which will be held outside England for the very first time. The party started in blistering style with a fireworks display on New Year’s Eve.
