Travelling made easier

Soon it will be a year since I took time out of work to see some of the world. My numerous trips and experiences have turned this into a travel blog. I’ve now made it easier for you to navigate posts from around the globe and pinpoint places that interest you.

If you’re viewing on desktop, simply click on TRAVEL and the list of countries and destinations will appear for you to look at. Some have more than one post containing my travel impressions and of course photo galleries.

If you’re viewing on a mobile device, tap MENU and you’ll see the same list. At the moment there are 20 international destinations to choose from, a number which is going to grow in the coming months – keep checking by for new posts.

And I’m rounding this off with an image of Chile’s Atacama Desert, a country which wowed with its variety of landscapes and sheer majesty.

Welcome to Facebook

I have finally created an official Facebook page for mikeosbornphoto. I resisted for years, using my personal feed to share photographs and blog posts. The change of heart came when I realised the benefits of a ‘proper’ page – you can schedule posts, check the performance of your page (much the same as analytics on WordPress) and tap into the vast numbers of Facebook users who are interested in photography.

I know that some of my regular photographer and WordPress friends also maintain Facebook pages for their work. Do you as well? Well this is an opportunity for us to ‘like’ each other and connect on Facebook. It’s very useful to have as much outreach on social media which is so busy with people wanting to be seen and heard.

If you have a moment to come by, simply click the button below. It would be a pleasure to see you and of course return to compliment. It’ll be back to the photography very soon – that’s why we’re all here, isn’t it?

A virtual exhibition

I’ve created the mother of all galleries.

It displays 50 photographs which I think clearly represent what I do. It’s a good place for visitors to enjoy a virtual exhibition my work and make their own minds up with no text, just pictures.

I’ve seen many other photography bloggers do this, and I’ll often visit their “mega gallery” to absorb a snapshot of their world view.

The gallery will be regularly updated and amended – and might even grow. It has a permanent place in my top navigation bar so it can be easily found. It also carries a link to all the galleries in posts throughout the site.

I hope some of you will consider doing this as well, that’s if you’re not already! Here’s a little slither of the first edition of the gallery…

300

300selection

This is a moment to sit back and enjoy the photography. This is the 300th post on mikeosbornphoto, and marks two years of taking images and sharing them on this platform.

These composites are two random slices from my media library, which has slowly grown since April 2012. It’s a snapshot of people and places I’ve captured, from strangers to my most devoted supporter, Dermot (he’s on the bottom right of the first image, looking out from London’s Shard).

This is my chance to say thank you to fellow photographers and bloggers who support every post, to those who might just visit once. They’re all much valued.

The thing is, what next? A steady, satisfying momentum has established itself and I know what I really like doing. But it wouldn’t do to just stop there – plenty of challenges lie ahead.

Those bloggers help with this, including amazing self-portraitist Malin Helleso, who suggests I should try turning the camera on myself. And young, talented Portuguese photographer Diogo Pereira, who is teaching me how to take HDR photographs. A very first collaboration – with my closest photo blogging comrade Richard Cooper-Knight – is also being planned.

This is a good chance to share and enjoy more ideas, celebrate what we like best, and make it bigger and better…300selection2

The 10,000 moment

Mikeosbornphoto has just clocked up its 10,000th view, which seems a good moment to stand back and reflect on six months of sharing photography and thoughts.

Making contact with many great fellow photographers and bloggers has been a rewarding experience, including ckponderings, Diana J Hale, Stevie Gill, Noeline Smith and Danita Cahill – regular and much appreciated visitors and comment makers.

When I created this site, we had just enjoyed an unusual spurt of warm, sunny weather in parts of the UK, and the first photograph I posted – called Basking Brighton – seemed to hold hope for a barbecue summer.

Well, the season was blighted by wet weather but was saved by a feast of sport and Olympic fever. And that all seems a distant memory now, and today there is a chill in the air and a sodden depression swirling over us.

But thinking ahead to the next – hopefully – 10,000 visits, the future looks good. Photography is even more rewarding and enjoyable than ever, and sharing it through this site is a pleasure. Does anyone have any tips or advice for the coming six months?…
